Venezuela
Venezuela, one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, is located on the northern coast of South America. With the Caribbean to the north, the Andes to the west and the Amazon Basin in the south, there can be something for nearly everyone. The “Land of Grace” has been inhabited for over 15,000 years and the combination of indigenous culture and Spanish influence has created a country with a rich and unique history.
Start your trip in Caracas, the capital. El Paseo de Los Proceres, lined with beautiful trees and gardens, makes for a great spot for a picnic or a daytime stroll. From El Paseo make your way to El Centro de Arte La Estancia to get a taste of some of Venezuela’s art culture. Located in a former home on over 8.5 acres of land, El Centro de Arte La Estancia is a cornucopia of art that perfectly reflects all that makes Venezuela unique. Before you leave Caracas, take a ride in the cable car, El Teleferico, for a breathtaking view of all the city’s sights at once.
From Caracas, there are many places for day trips that only require a quick flight. Take a short trip to Margarita Island and walk the gorgeous beaches of Isla Coche. Visit the Basilica Virgen del Valle to see the stunning church and explore the surrounding market. Additionally, you can take a trip to Merida to visit the Parque Nacional Sierra Nevada and explore the Andean highland. To better understand the history of Venezuela, visit La Venezuela de Antier or Los Aleros.
